“You don't need people calling up your phone”

Of course she wouldn’t notice him.

Of course his worth didn’t shine through.

He retreated back to his solitary hole. There he felt comfortable, he felt so much more like himself. Right?

The phone stayed silent.

That’s just fine. He didn’t need anyone else. He’d finish his work, and then they’d see where they were wrong. There was so much he had to prove, and he knew he was on the right path. He looked again.

The phone stayed silent.

Staying diligent was the plan, he’d just keep working. He was better off alone anyway. Someone else would get it wrong or be in the way, but he knew he wouldn’t be able to stay alone forever.

The day would come…

“Better off alone”

LISTEN NOW! When you’re alone, you try hard to convince yourself that it’s for the best. You didn’t do anything wrong, it’s everyone’s else’s fault, or a plot by the universe that you’ll overcome. You’re “Better Off Alone”, right?

Lyrics

You look around and no one's there
When they are, they only laugh and stare
You're Better Off Alone
You're the only one who cares

Everybody's grabbing with their hands
Berating and shouting their demands
And even when they compliment
Just wait for a backhand

You're Better Off Alone
You're Better Off Alone
You don't need people calling up your phone
And if they did it's never for you
You're Better Off Alone
You can only count on you

They never say they're sorry or give you space
They just shove you down in your place

You're Better Off Alone
You're Better Off Alone
You don't need people calling up your phone
And if they did it's probably a scam
You're Better Off Alone
Just like I am

I used to be scared
But that time is done
There's no reason to fear (No fear)
When there's no one

You're Better Off Alone
You're Better Off Alone
Don't need people calling up my phone (Don't Blow Me Up)
And if they did I don't know if I'd even answer
I'm Better Off Alone
I'm Better Off Alone

WHERE IT BEGAN

I think the vocal take has been the same since the beginning stages of “Better Off Alone”. I tried other takes, but none of them sounded as alone. In the end, the song simply needed to be produced a bit more to really hone its beauty into the its final form.
